ART&COM™ Work Displays History

Collaborative Installation-performance-exhibition Mixed media, stories, and interactions

ART&COM™ temporarily converts two vacant commercial spaces in the Jamaica Colosseum Mall into an evolving exhibition center. A concept developed by Thiago Szmrecsányi, in collaboration with Natalia de Campos/Syncretic Pleasures, and with contributions by the Mall merchants.

It displays information about activities happening in the Mall, collected through Natalia’s interactions with the merchants and their use of visual elements to promote products, their printed promotional materials, and their history there. It shows sculptures by Thiago created with collected discarded materials in his studio and on site at the Mall. Objects new, used and discarded daily or seasonally are gathered, organized and displayed.

ART&COM™ also examines some of Jamaica’s flow and fluxes. The evolving exhibition freely employs the collected stories and materials so that all involved – artists, visitors, merchants and workers – may be affected by an unpredictable outcome.
