Housing is a Human Right: IT’S YOUR STORY THAT COUNTS

mixed media

Housing is a Human Right is a multi-platform documentary portrait of the struggle for Home. The project creates a space for people to record stories of Home, community and ongoing efforts to maintain or obtain housing. Composed of audio stories and photographs, in the tradition of oral history, along with testimonies and memories, woven and remixed, this collection of viscerally honest, first-person narratives illuminates the complex fabric of community and the people’s right to a place to call Home. Stories play out loud and visitors are invited to come experience stories, map their home, schedule a time to share their own story or attend a foreclosure prevention workshop.

Rachel Falcone and Michael Premo, Creators and Co-producers of Housing is a Human Right, are dedicated to drawing on the rich traditions of oral history to illuminate the experiences of people living in the darker corners of society. Working together on such interview-based projects as the award-winning national oral history project StoryCorps, StoryCorps Griot, EarSay Inc. and independently, Rachel and Michael have recorded hundreds of stories across the country.
