Aileen Bassis created a series of books based on her interaction with a group of senior citizens. Using a combination of photos, graphics and metal wire, the books are an allegory of the fragile nature of the immigrants’ emotional, physical and historical identities. The books are on display in the Nubian Heritage store (155-03 Jamaica Avenue).
Aileen Bassis, who specializes in artist-book making, holds an MA degree from Hunter College, City University of New York, NY. Her work has been presented at Jersey City Museum, NJ (2005), Contemporary Artist Center, MA (2005), Exit Art, NY (2002), and other venues.
