An eleventh hour administrative snafu derailed Jon Cuyson III’s original idea and swung the site around in front of the concept, reflecting the overall project’s title, Jamaica Flux. A wall at the prospective site owned by the First Presbyterian Church was the chosen site for his banner, mirroring the use of expansive urban walls for advertising, and that industry’s tactics for attracting attention. In a democratizing interactive approach, Cuyson gave church members the opportunity to vote on the image that he would ultimately choose. Reflecting his interests in temporality and change, the work underscores the defining role of the everyman in the everyday. -K.J.B.
